Material Resources Center

The Material Resources Center in Ephrata, Pa., is a central collection point for items donated by people in the United States who are responding to request for materials from MCC partners. Sharing resources is a concrete way to stand with those who suffer from disasters, wars and poverty. The MRC uses volunteers to do much of the work of checking and packing material aid kits, blankets and canned meat. Shipments of material resources approved for distribution by MCC international partners are loaded at the MRC with help from volunteers.

MRC volunteers also work on numerous recycling projects. These include weaving rugs from jeans, cutting T-shirts into rags and recycling cardboard, office paper and books. In addition, MRC has a quilt room producing quilts sold at 21 MCC relief sales each year.

Volunteers come from numerous Mennonite, Amish, Brethren in Christ and other churches as well as youth groups, schools, service clubs, senior groups and families. Typically there are approximately 500 volunteers each month. Seven staff are employed at the MRC to manage the flow of donated resources and coordinate the work of volunteers.
