Sing for Hope Winter Opera Gala benefitting MCC's Global Family Program

Lancaster-native and renowned operatic soprano,
Madeline Bender and Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)'s education sponsorship program, Global Family are pleased to present the 4th Annual Sing for Hope, Winter Opera Gala. The evening of exceptional vocal performances will be held on Saturday evening, January 21st, at the Fulton Theatre and will include a range of musical styles, from spirituals and operatic pieces to excerpts from well-loved musicals. Inspired by the 30-year legacy of MCC's Global Family Program, all of the performers donate their time and their talents for both the concert and a master class. The concert proceeds enrich the lives of children and families around the globe by generating valuable funds for hundreds of educational and community projects. By supporting the Sing For Hope Winter Opera Gala, you help make creative, community-based education available to children and young adults. Learn more about Global Family.
About Madeline Bender
Praised in Opera News for her "glowing, full-bodied lyric soprano" and "haunting timbre," Madeline Bender's operatic roles include Violetta in La Traviata with both Santa Fe Opera, and Vancouver Opera; Konstanza in Entfuhrung aus dem Serail at the Aix en Provence festival, Baden Baden, and the royal opera house in Luxembourg; Helena, in A Midsummer Nights Dream with Glyndebourne opera, and at the Royal Opera House in Brussels; as well as concert appearances including Beethoven's ninth symphony with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Sir John Elliot Gardiner, and Handel's Messiah with the Toronto Symphony with Sir Andrew Davis conducting.

Bender, a Lancaster County native, who also resides in London and New York, was raised in a family of educators. Understanding the powerful impact quality childhood education has on any community, Madeline was particularly inspired by the international education efforts of the Global Family Program which believes that students who achieve education gain confidence and skills that enable them to improve their lives and their communities. By providing an evening of high-caliber musical performance, Bender hopes to bring the local Lancaster community together to raise money for a cause that is close to her heart.
